Dan Tranh is a Vietnamese cither, related to the Chinese guzheng, an instrument with many similar cousins like the Korean kayagum and the Japanese koto.

Its history goes back to the Chinese occupation of Vietnam from A.D. 43 to 938.

A characteristic feature in this family of cithers is the high, moveable frets that also allow alteration of pitch with the left hand. The instrument is traditionally played with finger plectrums and three-finger technique in the right hand.

Karaktäristiskt för hela denna familj av cittror är de höga, flyttbara band som också möjliggör karaktäristiska tonhöjdsaltereringar med vänster hand.
Instrumentet spelas traditionellt med fingerplektrum och trefingerteknik i höger hand.
